Upcoming Adaptations of Deathgasm: A Game and Graphic Novel
A new chapter in the world of Jason Lei Howden's Deathgasm is set to unfold through both a video game adaptation and a graphic novel. Fangoria reports that this heavy metal horror-comedy will soon be available as a retro-style 16-bit sidescroller for PlayStation 5, complemented by an 80-page graphic novel acting as a prelude to the eagerly anticipated sequel, Deathgasm 2: Goremageddon.
Deathgasm Expands into New Media Formats
In the vibrant world of entertainment, fans are about to experience Deathgasm like never before. The upcoming video game, crafted collaboratively by Bit Bot, Howden’s Metalheads Inc., and FreakZone Games, offers players an immersive journey where they must confront the chaos unleashed by the Black Hymn. This catastrophic event causes Hell to seep into reality, setting the stage for an intense battle across nine levels, each inspired by Dante’s Inferno. Players can choose their character from Brodie, Zakk, or Medina, wielding unconventional weapons such as chainsaws, axes, guitars, and even sex toys to combat demonic forces and monstrous bosses derived from the original film's antagonists.
Beyond the gaming realm, the graphic novel Deathgasm 1.5: Director’s Cut provides further insight into the universe. Created by Howden and Bit Bot, it features guest appearances by GWAR and Trivium’s Matt Heafy. Written by Peter Bune with art by Industrias Lamonicana, this novel bridges the gap between the first and second films, delivering a visually stunning, gory tale too extreme for cinematic portrayal. It showcases Brodie and Medina's adventures against demons while exploring themes of heavy metal culture and ageless evil lurking within a church hostile to their music.
Both projects are set to launch Kickstarter campaigns soon, while Deathgasm 2: Goremageddon remains in post-production following its successful crowdfunding phase.
From a reader's perspective, these adaptations not only expand the Deathgasm universe but also highlight the versatility of storytelling mediums. They underscore how creators can leverage different platforms to enrich narratives and engage audiences more deeply. Such initiatives inspire other filmmakers and artists to explore multimedia approaches when bringing their stories to life, ensuring richer experiences for fans worldwide.
