However, a significant vulnerability has been uncovered by an experienced repair specialist: a highly delicate internal connector. Should this component sustain damage during processes like disassembly for water block installation, the entire unit may become inoperable due to the unavailability of replacement parts. This issue poses a substantial risk for users attempting to modify or repair their high-end GPUs.

This critical design flaw was brought to light by NorthridgeFix in a recent video, detailing a client's predicament with a non-functional RTX 5090. Unlike most graphics cards, the Founders Edition of the RTX 5090 uniquely integrates two circuit boards: a main board with the GPU, VRAM, and power delivery, and a smaller secondary board for the PCIe slot. These boards are connected by a proprietary, fixed mechanism, not a flexible ribbon cable, which the repair expert describes as \"very fragile.\" The breakage of this specific connector during a water block installation rendered the customer's card irreparable, as no compatible replacements are commercially available.

While some might fault the user for accidental damage to such a costly component, the reality is that such incidents can occur. This highlights a broader concern regarding the serviceability of the RTX 5090 Founders Edition. Although the card boasts an aesthetically pleasing design, its internal fragility is a serious drawback.
